Gus is 6 Weeks Old!

Gus is 5 Weeks Old!

Baby Gus is 5 Weeks Old! He is holding his head up to look around and has started to smile. He is growing like crazy and weighed 10 lbs, 4 oz. at his check up! Gus strongly prefers to be held and most of my attempts to get a 5 week photo looked a lot more like this:

Edie and Greta Meet Gus!

Both Edie and Greta chose to stay at Grandma's house when Baby Brother was born. They were very excited to come home and meet him the next morning.

They are wonderful big sisters and they love their little brother!

August Henry

We welcomed August Henry to the family on January 21, 2019!

Sweet baby brother Gus weighed 6 lbs, 6 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long. He had a lot of hair just like his big sisters. Although he was born at 37 weeks and 3 days, he is strong, healthy, and very alert.

January 20 and 21 was "Super Blood Wolf Moon" and I was sure it was going to encourage baby to make his debut. As it turned out, it did!  On Monday Morning, Martin Luther King Day, my water broke unexpectedly at about 9:00. Edie and Greta headed out to spend the day with Gram and Grandpa and I waited for things to pick up. I had been having minor contractions for the past several days but nothing that felt serious. I spent most of the day calmly resting and waiting. At about 3:00 I decided to get a bit of fresh air and walked down to the barn. Walking and being outside was really good for my mood, and get things moving. I took a shower and moved around the house.

By 6:00 I was having stronger contractions closer together, but they were not consistent or particularly painful. The intensity slowly increased with each contraction over the next hour. Hanley was a huge help and was with me the entire time. As the labor progressed my mom was able to join us. Nearing 10:00 I was ready to have the baby, and by 10:11 he was born!

We are very grateful for our perfect and healthy baby boy. He is truly a blessing. I greatly appreciate my wonderful midwife and the incredible opportunity to have my baby in my own home.
