Spring Chicks are Here!

The same day I brought home the goats, I set out to the feed store to get the babies some milk replacer. In consulting with a helpful soul farm more knowledgeable in goat husbandry than I, the girls were offered a very sweet pet chicken. So naturally, I brought her home.

Fiona looks a bit like a pigeon, but she has found herself quite at home in our coop. She keeps to herself and does not cause much trouble.

The following day I went to the feed store to pick up some goat chow. I took a peek at the chicks. In stock were golden sexlink chicks quickly leaving adorable and fuzzy and speeding towards awkward adolescent. When I inquired as to when they expected a new shipment I was informed that I could have these for a buck a piece! So naturally, I brought home 15!

After spending about a week in a dog crate in the house they quickly got moved out to the chicken coop. They have settled in nicely and are nearly completely feathered. One of them is a rooster and is already nearly the same size as little Fiona.

Goats!

We recently added these adorable little guys into our barn. Edie and Greta each have two goats. Edie named her goats Diamond and Pearl. Greta named her's Rusty and Sparky. They are so fun and we have really been enjoying them.

Welcome to the Family Mabel Rose!

Meet Mabel Rose! She is an English Cocker Spaniel. We brought her home at the end of February and she fits right in. She is a lively little gal, and we love her.

Myrtle was a little slow to warm up to her, but Mabel is growing on her!

Edie Jane has been a tremendous help. She is always willing to take Mabel Rose out to potty, and insisted we include a beautiful middle name for her pup.

Greta's 3rd Birthday

Happy Birthday Gigi!!!! We celebrated this three-year old's birthday with a nice little party at home. Greta loves ponies, mermaids, and unicorns. It is hard to believe it was already three years ago that we brought this smart, thoughtful, clever, funny girl home to join our family. We love you Greta!

Winter Wonderland

This Winter has been an exceptionally snowy one! It started snowing in early December, and has not really stopped since! While we are all getting a little tired of staying indoors, it is beautiful.

Christmas

This year we had a lovely Christmas in our new home! The girls received a new play kitchen from Santa, and we shared a lovely day with family at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Our House Update

After months of hard work, we were finally able to move into our new house in early December. There are still many projects to complete, but we have made so much progress.

We put new tamarack floors in the entire house. We also replaced all the windows. Hanley is still working on replacing all of the window and door trim with boards that match our new floors.

The girls' room got a fresh coat of paint. It still needs baseboards and trim, but is working out well. The girls are adjusting to sharing a room.

The second bedroom is a temporary bedroom but will be an office. This room still needs window trim and baseboards. We removed paneling, repaired the original exterior window, painted the wall boards, and added some wallpaper.

The bathroom turned out beautiful. Hanley completely redid everything, and added a beautiful block window.

The kitchen now has a much more functional layout. The butcherblock countertops look beautiful, as does the copper sink. The table is where the washer and dryer used to be. They have been moved to the basement. Overall we are really happy with how it turned out.
